Crane Kalman Brighton is pleased to present for the second time, HOST @ Crane Kalman Brighton, an exhibition featuring a selection of images from the 3rd Annual Foto8 Awards show held in London this Summer.
Following the success of the exhibition at Crane Kalman Brighton last year, and the enthusiastic response from visitors to the show, HOST @ Crane Kalman Brighton will be running again this year from 11th to 30th September 2010.
The Foto8 Awards are held annually at the HOST Gallery in London and are a celebration of the best in reportage, portraiture and landscape photography, featuring emerging and established photographers.
Foto8 is the UK's leading photography magazine dedicated to reportage photography and photojournalism. The Foto8 Awards are a celebration of the quality and diversity of contemporary photography currently being produced both in the UK and internationally.
The 2010 Awards Show had an overwhelming number of works submitted for inclusion, with over 2,500 images entered from photographers based across all six continents.
Photographers were encouraged to submit entries of their work, as single images or as a short series. Images were then chosen according to aesthetics and substance, regardless of photographic genre, with the final selection of 156 images, chosen by the Foto8 editors, going on display at the HOST Gallery this summer.
A team of guest judges chosen from different corners of the world of photography then chose their favourite piece of work to be awarded 'Best in Show' and this year the award went to a graduate of Brighton University's BA Photography course, Laura Pannack.
A second award, 'The People's Choice', is still to be selected by public votes cast during the HOST Gallery show. Both winning pieces will be on display as part of HOST @ Crane Kalman Brighton.
This year's panel of judges included Brighton-based photographer, Mark Power, Curator at the Photography Gallery, Stefanie Braun and the Picture Editor of The Sunday Times, Monica Allende.
HOST @ Crane Kalman Brighton will run from 11th to 30th September 2010 at the Crane Kalman Gallery, Brighton, 38 Kensington Gardens, North Laine, Brighton BN1 4AL (www.cranekalmanbrighton.com).
Crane Kalman Brighton is a member of the Own Art scheme run by the Arts Council. The scheme provides interest-free loans of up to £2,000 to buy contemporary art work.
